Shanghai-born designer Ziggy Chen established his label in 2012 aiming to create a minimalist collection that features deconstructed tailoring, lightweight linen jackets, relaxed-fit trousers, subdued earthy tones, and singular finishings. The muted collections are crafted from natural materials like wool, hemp, and linen augmented with leather and fine cotton to create organic pieces that are constructed by the same sewing methods used to make traditional Chinese garments. There’s a certain ruggedness to these fabrics offset with classic elegance. His most recent collection draws inspiration from pictures of the people from Shanghai taken between 1900 to 1920. These images depict a mix of different cultures and people from workmen, monks, herders, and soldiers. The perfect mix of modern sensibility with a timeless Eastern aesthetic.
